2 Hi-Tech Locks For Your Home

Blog

When most homeowners picture locks for their house, they think of using a regular key that works with a tumbler to activate it. Now there are many futuristic options to use for your home's locks, some of which you may not have thought of using. While they may have sounded like something you only see in movies, these types of locks are currently available to be installed on your home.

Locks That Work With Your Smart Phone

Does it seem weird to leave your house without having any physical keys? This may someday be the standard for getting in and out of your house thanks to your smart phone. You can now get a lock that is connected to an app that will lock your door using a cellular signal.

Since the method of using the lock is electronic, it also creates a log of every time that the lock was used, which can be very helpful. For example, if you have someone watching your pet while you are out of town, you will be able to see when they stop by.

You can also give people remote access to your home and revoke it whenever you like, without the worry about them copying the key. This works great if you are having any sort of professional come to your home when you are not there, like a cleaning service. You can feel assured that if you revoke access that they won't be able to get in.

Locks That Take Photos

Even if you do not want an electronic lock that works with your smart phone, there are other locks out there that will provide some added security. One way this is done is by installing a camera onto your lock that can take a photo of whoever enters your home.

This goes one step further than the digital lock's logging features, since you can see exactly who is entering your home with absolute certainty. If someone attempts to break into your home, it will also take a photo of them as they attempt to get in. You could send these photos to your police when making a police report, and help catch the criminal.

With the advances in lock technology, there is sure to be something that can be a benefit to your home. Contact a local locksmith like Ability Lock & Key about assisting with the installation of any hi-tech lock to ensure it is done correctly.

Finding Better Locks, Keys, and Safes

Few things are more intimidating than realizing that your belongings are susceptible to being robbed. I realized this truth when we left town for a few weeks and came home to find a completely ransacked home. To prevent future problems, we started combing the market for a great safe that would protect our belongings, and we were able to find one that we felt really good about. After it was installed, we stocked it with all of our most important possessions and worked on putting our best things in it from then on. It was a lot of work, but it really paid off.
