When it comes to home security, there are a lot of great high-tech options you can use to secure your home and transform it into a "smart home." With the help of your locksmith and the following additions to your home, you can create a home that is tech-savvy and secure.
Smart Smoke Detectors
Unlike traditional smoke detectors, smart smoke detectors tell you where the potential danger is in your home. Some models come with built-in speakers that tell you the location and type of threat that may be in your home. They typically include both a smoke detector and a carbon monoxide detector, and they can be connected to your mobile device. This means you can check on potential danger in your home even if you aren't there.
Smart Locks
Traditional keyed locks can only do so much to protect your home, but new smart locks incorporate technology to make your home more secure. These locks include keypads to replace traditional keys. You need only to remember your pass code to gain entry into your home. Some come with additional features that let you create temporary pass codes for people who need access to your home, such as dog walkers, babysitters and out-of-town guests. You can sync your mobile device to the smart locks to monitor when people access your house, and you can connect the locks to your home security cameras to watch as people open the door. Talk to a residential locksmith for more information.
Smart Leak Sensors
Smart leak sensors are designed to let you know when potential flooding is occurring in your home. They can be placed in the basement, near your dishwasher and in your laundry room. These devices are typically WiFi-enabled, and they can send alerts to your mobile device at the first sign of trouble. With a simple alert, you can then access your camera system to assess the potential damage and take steps to correct the situation.
Smart Camera Systems
Your camera system ties all your other smart devices together to create a whole-home security system. New smart camera systems can come with night vision so you can see potential intruders even in the dark, and they let you access your live video directly on your mobile device. Some systems let you pan your cameras to view different angles in your home, and others include powerful zoom functions to let you see activity in your home close up. You can even select a camera system with a built-in microphone, which you can use as an intercom system. This can be used in the nursery or to communicate with people at your front door.
Work with your locksmith to have these security devices installed in your home, and be sure to ask if there are any other smart devices your home might benefit from.

Few things are more intimidating than realizing that your belongings are susceptible to being robbed. I realized this truth when we left town for a few weeks and came home to find a completely ransacked home. To prevent future problems, we started combing the market for a great safe that would protect our belongings, and we were able to find one that we felt really good about. After it was installed, we stocked it with all of our most important possessions and worked on putting our best things in it from then on. It was a lot of work, but it really paid off.
